Gus Bilirakis (FL), Ranking Member

BilirakisRanking Member Gus Bilirakis was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006 representing Florida’s 9th Congressional District. As Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Management, Investigations, and Oversight, Bilirakis investigates and reports on the Department of Homeland Security’s anti-terrorism and disaster response efforts, personnel management procedures, and procurement process.

During the 111th Congress, Bilirakis will work to ensure that the Department of Homeland Security and its programs are operating as efficiently and effectively as possible so that taxpayer's money is being spent wisely to keep our nation secure.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Bilirakis was overwhelmingly elected to four terms as a member of the Florida House of Representatives. During his tenure in Tallahassee (1998-2006), he chaired several prominent panels, including Crime Prevention, Public Safety Appropriations, and the Economic Development, Trade, & Banking Committee.

In addition to his duties for the Committee on Homeland Security, Bilirakis also serves on the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs and House Committee on Foreign Affairs.


Jurisdiction: Responsibility for oversight of agencies, departments, and programs within the jurisdiction of the full committee, and for conducting investigations within such jurisdiction. Responsibility for the structure of the Department; personnel and labor issues; the Management Directorate; Office of Policy; and the components of the Office of the Secretary.
