Subcommittee on Intelligence, Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment
Michael T. McCaul (TX), Ranking Member
In November of 2004, Michael McCaul was elected to represent Texas' 10th District in the United States Congress.
As a member of the Committee on Homeland Security, and former Chairman of the Subcommittee on Investigations for the 109th Congress, and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity, Science and Technology, he has worked to strengthen and secure our borders and vital infrastructure and prevent waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer funds. For the 111th Congress, Congressman McCaul serves as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Intelligence, Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment, which has jurisdiction over federal, state, and local intelligence and information sharing efforts within the United States; terrorism-related threat, vulnerability, and risk analyses at the Department of Homeland Security; and terrorism threat advisories and warnings.
Congressman McCaul has been asked to serve for a third term as an Assistant Whip for the 111th Congress by House Republican Whip Eric Cantor. As a member of the Whip team, he helps the Republican Whip manage the voting process and pass critical legislation in the House of Representatives.
Prior to coming to Congress, Michael McCaul served as Chief of Counter-Terrorism and National Security in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Texas, and led the Joint Terrorism Task Force charged with detecting, deterring and preventing terrorist activity. Congressman McCaul also served as Texas Deputy Attorney General under current U.S. Senator John Cornyn, and served as a federal prosecutor in the Department of Justice’s Public Integrity Section in Washington, D.C.
Jurisdiction: Federal, state, and local intelligence and information sharing efforts within the United States; terrorism-related threat, vulnerability, and risk analyses at the Department of Homeland Security; terrorism threat advisories and warnings; Homeland Security Advisory System; liaison of the Department with U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies; the role of terrorism threat prioritization; FLETC; Secret Service; and overclassification issues.
